I had previously been using a Radio Shack speaker selector in my home studio, switching back and forth between two sets of passive monitors. The Radio Shack worked fine for quite a few years, but it eventually became scratchy and intermittent. When the audio dropouts got to be too frequent and annoying, I started shopping for a better-quality selector.I was a little hesitant about buying this selector because it doesn’t have a brand name on it, didn’t have any reviews, doesn’t have much information about it online, seemed to be lacking some labeling on the back, and it isn’t popular on Amazon (well, not yet anyway) but it looked to be better quality than the cheaper wire-clamping selectors out there, so I bought it.The first thing I noticed is the quality construction. It feels like a quality product, and the rocker switches are solid. The second thing I noticed is that it’s significantly bigger than what I had pictured in my head (literally about twice the size of the Radio Shack) so I had to move a few things around to make a place for it. The third thing I noticed is that it does have additional “right” and “left” labeling on the rear of the unit. (The product photo must have been taken before they added it.)How does it work? Perfectly! Using gold-plated banana plugs, I connected my speakers to the selector, turned on my amp, and everything worked right away. There’s no hint of scratchiness. The audio comes through both pairs of speakers as good as a direct connection. The longevity of this speaker selector is yet to be determined, but from my experience unboxing it, hooking it up, and using it for the first time, it’s an uncontested five stars.EDIT: Over five years later, it’s still working as perfectly as the day I got it.
